View Full Version : Tattoos

Didnt really see anything on the first page about this and didnt want to bump any old threads, so figured making a new one would be the best idea.
Anyways, Im really into body artwork. Tattoo's are definitly one of my favorite things to see on people. I dont know what it is, but they dive me crazy. They just put me in awe. Recently I just got my second one done. Id figured there would be some fellow tattoo lovers on this board, so I decided to share what I have and would love to see any artwork anyone else has on them.
-Note!- The tattoo is located on my left side ribs. The picture is mostly safe for work. It does expose my bra and what not like that, so just an FYI there. I dont want anyone getting in trouble.

That's some sensitive turf there to tattoo, and the shading is probably going to be... entertaining.
As for other people's tattooing, I have traditional work only partly completed (will be neck-to-toe when done)-
Left arm (sorry about the image quality, need better pics) (http://ciarraide.org/temp/pics/tat_L_arm.jpg)
Right arm (http://ciarraide.org/temp/pics/tat_R_arm.jpg)
Close-up of the Fenian wolf on my right shoulder (http://ciarraide.org/temp/pics/tat_wolf.jpg)
Template of the wolf (http://ciarraide.org/temp/pics/fenian_wolf.jpg)
Crappy shot of the overall left side (http://ciarraide.org/temp/pics/tat_L_side.jpg)
Crappy shot of the overall right side showing some of the chest work (http://ciarraide.org/temp/pics/tat_R_side.jpg)
I need to get more (and better) pics, but I am too busy and run ragged to think about it most of the time. Planning on adding more chest and back work, so I'll get comprehensive pics with a good camera then.
May 11th, 2007, 05:27 PM
Oh very entertaining indeed. Just the little bit she did put me out for the count during that session. Hopefully it won't be nearly as bad since I won't be tender from getting the outline done and I'll be able to sit still so she can finish shading it.
Those are definitly some nice sleeves. Do you plan on keeping them black or plan on putting any color in em? I love traditional tattoos like that. But I dont think I could ever get any. Just not really a style I could see on myself. Plus they definitly wouldnt have as much meaning to me as they do you. I hate people who get stuff just because its popular or what not.
May 11th, 2007, 06:23 PM
Oh man that's a tender spot you got.
Here's all mine: http://flickr.com/photos/pickleberries/sets/72157594267142450/ well, aside from the small flower on the inside of my right ankle, but that one is older and not as visible.
I would take more as I'm all healed now, but I'm also getting more back fat because of the pregnancy, and I'd rather not share my back fat with the world. *grins* The tattoo is also on hold because of the aforementioned parasitic condition I have, which makes me sad.
May 11th, 2007, 09:58 PM
Good grief both of those dragons are amazing!
Takara, is yours almost done? I am very curious what the finished product looks like.
As well as Ather actually. I dont think I could survive the pain =P
May 11th, 2007, 10:46 PM
Oh no... Taks has hours and hours and hours left to go. In the grands scheme of things, she's just started. But, further work is postponed until after GU Jr. is born.
May 11th, 2007, 11:22 PM
Yeah, about 30 more hours to go.
May 12th, 2007, 12:06 AM
Do you plan on keeping them black or plan on putting any color in em?They're actually an azure shade of blue (http://ciarraide.org/temp/pics/workout_ouchies.jpg), but no, it's traditional work, so no colouring, only lines. Any fill-in is done with hash-marks in the same colour. I am getting more done down my chest, across my shoulders and down my back, a narrow strip of spiral and scrollwork down the center of my abdomen, flaring out to merge with the zoomorphic boar (http://ciarraide.org/temp/pics/tattoos_zoomorphic2.jpg) on either thigh, and so on.
May 12th, 2007, 12:32 AM
The thigh?! Yous a brave man Breandan.
May 12th, 2007, 08:47 AM
I love tattoos. I only have four, on my back. I wish I coud afford another one.
Top (http://ciarin.com/tatts/newtatt/tatt.jpg)(my most recent)
Second from the top (http://ciarin.com/tatts/top.jpg) (the pic was taken before last one)
Second from the bottom (http://ciarin.com/tatts/middle.jpg) - I'm not really happy with this one, I miht try to get it fixed up sometime.
Bottom tattoo (http://ciarin.com/tatts/bottom.jpg) - My first tatt!
I really ought to get updated pics of my tatts...
I designed all of them, but unfortunately I had to simplify the work because they were too intricate for tattooing. I think the next one I'm going to get is an Irminsul.
May 12th, 2007, 07:51 PM
The thigh?! Yous a brave man Breandan.forgot to mention the nethers, but, meh... no one wants to know about that :D
May 13th, 2007, 07:14 AM
Oh wow Brean..I dunno..I was iffy about letting someone jab me in the ribs with a needle 50 bazillion times..but the nethers?? That a definite heck no! Your crazy!
May 13th, 2007, 09:32 AM
forgot to mention the nethers, but, meh... no one wants to know about that :D
Thats what you think!
Ok I'm joking... I think... DAMN YOU CURIOSITY!!!!
May 13th, 2007, 12:10 PM
I'd have to say getting my hiney worked on was THE WORST... way more painful than the ribs, spine or anywhere else I've had work done.
May 13th, 2007, 09:31 PM
Hooray! My friend finally finished the custom artwork for my memorial tattoo! I'm taking it to the local shop on Monday to see how long and how much. Yeah for me!
May 13th, 2007, 10:48 PM
DAMN YOU CURIOSITY!!!!
err... by nethers I meant my heiny, which will probably have spiral patterns on either flank going into the tails of the boars. What, did you think I was going to tattoo P-51B tiger nose art (http://www.onmarkint.com/images/1/10004/10004a.jpg) on my lad? O.o
May 14th, 2007, 07:27 AM
Breandan, that would rock.
May 14th, 2007, 08:37 AM
If you didn't pass out from the pain.
I have mine designed and everything, but I'm having some difficulty finding Tattoo place I like. Oshawa has no shortage of Tattoo places, for damn sure, but clean ones, that is another matter.
May 14th, 2007, 12:44 PM
What, did you think I was going to tattoo P-51B tiger nose art (http://www.onmarkint.com/images/1/10004/10004a.jpg) on my lad? O.o
May 16th, 2007, 07:25 AM
Breandan, I knew what you meant... Although... OWWWWW!!!!
YOu are much braver than I.
bob the goat
May 16th, 2007, 08:18 AM
Yeah, but why would you get a short range fighter art? Why not a long range bomber? :)
May 16th, 2007, 09:20 AM
May 16th, 2007, 09:36 AM
WOW those are beautiful! :) I want to get tattoos eventually, but I'm still deciding what and where.
My first thought is something Native American, like maybe a dream catcher on my shoulder...and maybe a butterfly someplace and/or some conjis. I just want to put mine someplace that's easily covered for work but can be shown off other times when I want to. I'll make up my mind someday...tee hee.
May 16th, 2007, 05:14 PM
Hmm..heiney tattoos..I dunno. I dont even want a shot in the buttocks none the less a tattoo. I dont think I could do it. Plus I couldnt put someone through the torture of staring at my butt that long haha.
I go in today around 9pm to get my dragon finished the rest of the way! Im pretty excited. Im hoping it turns out to look really good. The artist says it should look pretty awsome. I'll throw up the pic once I get it.
May 16th, 2007, 09:17 PM
Is it dumb for me to go get mine now, when we're about to move? I don't want to shell out $100 for my awesome artwork and then find out I needed the money for furniture or food or something. On the other hand, if I wait till we're in Florida, I will have to try to appease my Grandmother. Course, if I can't be a grownup with my grandmother, I'm not really a grown-up, right? help!
May 17th, 2007, 06:39 AM
Annnnnddd....phase 2 is complete! I didnt get all the black shading done but there was so much of it and I started to shake a lot, so we called it a night.
-Note!- Again, with the lots of exposure of skin in this picture. Just wanted to give a warning.
May 18th, 2007, 10:42 AM
Whoa... that's one seriously cool tattoo!
I'm too chicken to get one. I'm allergic to pain. And then there's the difficulty I have making up my mind of the what and the where. Meh, I'll live vicariously through others. :)
May 18th, 2007, 03:55 PM
:: jaw drops::: Holy..
May 23rd, 2007, 09:59 PM
Ok, phase 3 of the tattoo is complete. She couldn't add in the color tonight because the rest of the areas she has already done weren't healed enough and she didnt want it to scar and ruin the tattoo. So here is the next phase.
-Note- Same FYI as before. Lots of skin. Be warned.
I won't be able to get it finished for a good bit now. Im going on leave on Saturday and then when I get back to NY I have a field exercise to do which will be about a week long. So Mid-June-ish or so is what Im aiming for to get it done.
May 23rd, 2007, 11:22 PM
I have got to ask.. who the heck is taking the picture?
May 24th, 2007, 03:19 AM
Self pictures heh. I go to our body mirrior and take em there. Hence the big ol glare off the flash. Its hard to see it without the flash otherwise I wouldnt use it.
May 24th, 2007, 07:13 AM
Ah.. wasn't sure.
June 6th, 2007, 07:39 AM
I have 4 so far let's see
June 7th, 2007, 09:00 AM
Love the forearm tats. :) The blending of the color is very nice.
June 26th, 2007, 03:14 PM
So I will not be able to complete my tattoo anytime soon.
Today I went throug my SRC process for deployment and got my smallpox shot. And of course, you can't get any tattoos during that time so Im going to have to wait till after I get back to finished. That's a whole 16 months! I was so excited to get it colored to. Ah well, I'll just have to suffer.
--- UPDATE ---
Sorry to kinda be bumping an old thread but I didnt feel the need to make a new one.
Anyways, I was able to complete my tattoo afterall! Im pretty excited with the turn out.
-FYI-! May not be safe for work. Any nudity is covered but I want to warn you guys anyways.
-Edit- I also apologize about the slight blurr..I was pretty tired when I took the picture
July 25th, 2007, 09:47 PM
Looks bloody good! Glad you got it finished before getting punted over the pond, not exactly like you are going to find many tattoo parlours over there :D
July 26th, 2007, 08:09 AM
Ye gods that is good.
July 26th, 2007, 09:36 AM
July 26th, 2007, 01:39 PM
Just a bit of tattoo envy on my part here. I only have one small one on my left shoulder. Yours is really quite good.
P.S. What branch are ya in?
July 26th, 2007, 07:20 PM
In the grand ol' Active Army
July 26th, 2007, 07:32 PM
P.S. What branch are ya in? she's wrapped in ACU and stamped with Unky Sam's own label ;) I am SO glad ACUs weren't mandatory until after I got out (though oh, how they tried...), I like my BDUs better. The beret, though... First time I was in, we had barracks caps and BDU headgear (think of the Clint Eastwood of baseball caps), second time in I felt like a militant frog.
July 27th, 2007, 08:03 AM
OH I so wanna get a tattoo now! :)
July 28th, 2007, 09:37 AM
What's an ACU??
July 28th, 2007, 10:21 AM
Army Combat Uniform. Its the uniforms we wear daily. Digital camo. Jacket and pants.
July 28th, 2007, 03:54 PM
Yup. We're still in the BDUs unless we deploy, in which case we're in DCUs. We're expecting the new ABUs to be issued in a few months. I'm still not sure what to think of them.
On a side note I'm trying to design a new tattoo for myself. This one will be in the shape of a torc, and in that location on my torso, but the ends of it will either be Pictish symbols or my clan badge. I can't decide which just yet.
Oh. And I'll need a professional artist (or a very good ameature one) to take the design and make it actually look good before I head to the parlour to have it inked.
July 29th, 2007, 03:31 AM
What's an ACU??It's what happens when people at the DOD who have never actually been in the field get feedback reports from those who have, misinterpret the hell out of them, get drunk on expensive liquor on taxpayer dollars, and then at 0330 come up with the idea for a new uniform design based on what the dancing chinchilla on the Karaoke monitor is telling them in Yiddish in sign language. Velcro + desert sand = bad. They're not ALL bad, you can wash and iron them, and the slanted pockets ARE easier to get to under an IBA, and the no-polish boots make me jealous *looks at his highly-polished mudsloggers in the closet* But generally the uniform is problematic.
Then again, our company uses black BDUs as it's standard field uniform, which, when combined with body armour, can be problematic in Texas in the summer, so I proclaim myself Pot dialing up Kettle ;-)
August 3rd, 2007, 11:18 AM
I think I've just fallen in Love with Ather... *sighs*
Nice tattoo! Glad I've seen it from scratch build up...
August 6th, 2007, 03:01 PM
Ok, not shiny, but still Ooooh.
August 11th, 2007, 04:20 PM
Brean, this may sound like a strange request but can we get a close-up of the forearms? Tapadh leibh.
August 12th, 2007, 10:56 PM
Which one, or both? Will do what I can, digitial camera had a bad day and is on the fritz, will see what I can do with a cell-phone camera
August 13th, 2007, 01:32 PM
Left particularly, but nothing wrong with both. I'm minoring in folklore (in addition to music) and I understand your inking is of cultural significance.
August 27th, 2007, 08:48 PM
Sorry about the delay, completely spaced it and forgot about this.
here's the best I can do till we fix our digital camera-
September 6th, 2007, 12:13 PM
S'alright. I've been away from my computer (as in, in a different country than) for nearly a month anyway. Thanks.
January 15th, 2008, 10:52 AM
hey guys. don't mean to barge in but i also happen to be a huge ink fan. im working up the funds to do my left arm now, but i actually had to blow some on this little number (might be NSFW, but i figured with all the heiney talk in the first couple of pages i kinda have to) - http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii268/thesavagehamster/asspic.jpg
anyway, lots of amazing stuff here. i'm super jealous >.<
May 5th, 2008, 03:11 PM
I am definately not addicted to ink, but I wanted to share my tat. It took me 8 years of casual searching to find the design I wanted permanantly on my body. Who would have thought this would be it.
The image I found on elfwood.com and it is entitled "BRAVE". It seemed to have fit.
August 17th, 2008, 11:33 PM
My most recent tattoo is on my upper left shoulder blade...its pretty close to the original artwork. I drew this one myself as well as one other I have on my lower right side thats a gemini II symbol with two roses wrapped around the lettering (No photo of that one atm)
But here's the shoulder one:
and the original drawing I did:
August 27th, 2008, 12:18 PM
I can't wait to get my next tattoos done. I have a few in mind that are current being drawn up by friends. Plus I'm still debating on if I want another dragon on my other side or if I want to do something else. I'm not sure yet. The first one I want to get done though is the one that is being drawn up for my Mother. It's an angel tattoo. She really likes angels so I figured it would fit. The one after that is going to be a succubus* on my right side pelvis. I don't know..I just like the idea of a half naked, hot demon lady right there ;)
*Succubus - A demon who invades male dreams when they are dreaming of sex, has intercourse with them, and steals their soul in the process. Counter part - Incubus* Sorry, kinda sloppy description but Im too lazy to look up a good one.
August 27th, 2008, 01:12 PM
The one after that is going to be a succubus* on my right side pelvis. I don't know..I just like the idea of a half naked, hot demon lady right there ;)
Have you any idea how much more interesting that statement is when taken out of context?
Bad thoughts! Bad thoughts!
August 28th, 2008, 02:06 PM
Does Woody still do comissions? I have some unfinished ink as well as some new ideas. Unfortunately my original tattooist lives in Alaska and I in Florida.
August 28th, 2008, 05:19 PM
It'd probably be cheaper to have the tattoo artist you find sketch the work.
August 29th, 2008, 12:07 AM
I agree. However I feel that it wouldn't mean as much and it wouldn't be directly supporting my favorite artist. Plus how cool would it be to explain the origin of the art to those who ask. Much cooler than saying "oh, I saw it on the wall in the shop and just knew..."
November 7th, 2008, 09:37 AM
Whoa... that's one seriously cool tattoo!
I'm too chicken to get one. I'm allergic to pain. And then there's the difficulty I have making up my mind of the what and the where. Meh, I'll live vicariously through others. :)
Meh just come to florida. I kid you not there are advertisements on the radio daily for "painless tattoo" that is supposed to have better color and be less "prone" to fading.
December 11th, 2008, 05:36 PM
Well, sadly I have not been able to get any new ones as of lately. Though I do plan on talking to my tattooist tomorrow about what I'm getting on my right side ribs. I was going to do another dragon but decided it would look too crowded since I'm a rather small person. Instead I am going with a zen quote I found and really believe.
"Have good trust in yourself -- not in the One that you think you should be, but in the One that you are"
Also, here is an updated shot of my dragon all healed up and not glossy from A&D :) No nakie this time, sorry guys!
December 11th, 2008, 06:37 PM
That is gotta be one of the best Dragon tattoo I have seen. Looks beautiful...very nice!
December 11th, 2008, 10:20 PM
I plan on getting more work done on my upper chest, collar, and back before I go on active duty in Feb. Will post pics when I get around to it :D
December 16th, 2008, 01:17 PM
I'm talking with a tattoo-ist right now about getting the Queen Anne's Revenge on my left rib/side. He's drawing it up right now. Gonna be a couple sessions easy with all the rigging.
January 14th, 2009, 07:10 PM
Another update! I got my quote done. I'll be posting a picture tomorrow considering my roommate is sleeping at the moment and I don't want to disturb her with the flashing light of my camera. It turned out a lot better than I had hoped. I think you guys will enjoy it!
And here's the link to the photo :) Enjoy!
Same lacy braness going on for everyone to! Lol ^_^
January 20th, 2009, 06:34 AM
Ather nice dragon tat and like the style of the quote both are very well done
June 11th, 2009, 03:53 PM
That's some sweet ink... I like the font, works real well.
So, not sure if anyone here is actually from the area, but anyone know a good place in or near NYC to get inked? I've got a bunch of stuff i wanna get done and now I can finally afford (some of) it!
June 12th, 2009, 12:47 AM
At this rate, Ather has already shown the same amount of tat, skin, and undies that she would show in a tattoo magazine, so she might as well pose for one and get paid :D
Nice quote, how did it go when they went over the ribs?
June 12th, 2009, 07:57 PM
I have to agree with Brean.. lol
Also, I love the font Ather.. what is it?
June 13th, 2009, 11:03 AM
I wish I could pose and get paid for a tat magazine XD That would be fantastic! It really wasn't bad till she got the ribs right underneath my chest. That was the only rough spot for me.
As for the font, I honestly don't remember at the moment o.O. I'd have to look it up again.
Ok I can't remember for the life of me what font it is and don't have the energy at the moment to do the research for it. Sorry! >.<
So, I figured since I've shown you guys every other piece I have, I might as well show you the next piece I am getting! It will be located on my right, outside thigh.
Yes..she is my hero! ^_^ I'll post progress pics as it goes along. First appointment is on Friday. Oh, forgot to mention, the artist is completing the areas that are shaded black on the body to make it a full body and adding the rest of the hair instead of having it shaded in as well. Her legs will still be faded out though.

August 18th, 2009, 12:14 PM
So, the wife got a new tatoo. Seeing as our last name is Browning, and we both like to shoot... This (http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/bobthegoat/IMG_1123.jpg) seems appropriate.
August 18th, 2009, 02:23 PM
That's a deer-elk.

August 18th, 2009, 04:09 PM
(For non gun people, that is the logo for the Browning (http://www.browning.com/) gun company. )
August 21st, 2009, 01:42 PM
Ather, that's coming along BEAUTIFULLY.
And... dang. Now I'm supertwitching to get more ink done again. I've not been able to afford the major designs I've wanted, but maybe I'm going to have to just get another little 2 incher somewhere or other to tide me over. All I have is my little flying fox still that... hm. You know, I don't think I ever *DID* post an image for this thread.
...and.. we have no charged batteries in the house for cameras. So apparently at this MOMENT I can't post it. Still. But here's the flash/sketch for it! http://bakafox.deviantart.com/art/Flying-Fox-v01-17463712
It's just on my right shin, and is quite small, as it was more of a spurious tattoodle (Hey, I used to promise these people I'd get my first tattoo at their place and I'm in town, and may never be again! Let me sketch something and go in and get it done for under $100 if possible!)
I think it actually cost a little over $100, but I at least kept my promise even if my friends weren't actively in the shop that day ^^;
August 21st, 2009, 01:56 PM
Well, so I went and got my Wonder Woman tattoo done a while ago. Just hadn't gotten around to posting it. The picture is a tish blurry since the area was odd to take a self picture of. But here it is none the less!
Located on my outer right thigh.
And this is what I plan on getting on my left outer thigh to even things out. It'll be just her without the text.
If you hadn't noticed, I have a thing for female super heros :D. Though I really don't like Super Girl much..
August 21st, 2009, 10:18 PM
I don't have many characters I'd ever have tattoo'd... I vaguely ponder a Sanzo from Minekura's Saiyuki manga, but only due to it being a huge in joke amongst my best girlfriends from Michigan and myself. (We loved Saiyuki, and basically our personalities kinda meshed somehow with the characters, and I was decreed the Sanzo of our fearsome four. Not into sex or flirting, and very very quick to get cranky, etc.)
Mostly I want my own art on me, in particular pieces I've done to express myself, like my Rattlesnake Woman. http://bakafox.deviantart.com/art/Rattlesnake-Woman-27602603
October 25th, 2009, 03:49 AM
Ather, your tattoos are amazing! Bren, yours are too! Figured I'd show off my latest. Pardon the quality of the pic, it's from my cell phone...
October 11th, 2010, 01:58 PM
I hope this isn't considered reviving a dead thread! If so, I am terribly sorry, didn't want to start a new one. But here is an update on my newest tattoo. Had to change the picture since the one I picked wasn't as tattoo friendly as I thought. But I must say, I LOVE this one way more than the last! Thank god my artist is eff'ing amazing. So, here is my new She-Hulk tattoo:
October 11th, 2010, 03:39 PM
She-Hulk SMASH! Great tattoo! Nice detail as well. :)
September 16th, 2011, 08:50 PM
Been a while since any of us have added anything to this fun thread! I haven't been able to get any new ink for a while due to getting out of the Army, moving, etc. I do have my next one lined up though. I've decided to stay with the female super hero theme on my legs. So my next is none other than Jean Grey:
I plan on getting her done with a bit of the flames behind her and the ones down by her legs. I'm pretty excited to get this done. Lots of detail and color to it. Hopefully it comes out as awesome as She-Hulk did.

Love the tats! Glad someone mentioned this thread, hadn't seen it 'til now.....Which is sad, since about half the links are dead now :P
September 18th, 2011, 08:54 AM
Since someone has revived the thread, I'll post a link to my latest ink :)
September 18th, 2011, 06:41 PM
Takara, your tat link has been made private. Intentional? Is it posted anywhere else?
June 20th, 2014, 07:49 AM
Sooo...been a few years since any of us have gotten tattoos eh? I've Finally gotten my Jean Grey done and I absolutely love it. I definitely found the right artist for it. Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I really wanted to share!
